The Day of Pentecost or Trinity Sunday
There are many people who do not read the
Bible that is why they do not know true meanings of some Christian holidays.
It being known that many heathen elements were added to Christianity
during period of
Kievan Rus’, which contradict the teaching of the Bible.
Most people know how to celebrate Trinity Sunday or in Biblical words: “The Pentecost Day”. They know
many ceremonies and rites. One of such rites is decorating a house with green
branches – linden branches, sycamore branches or flagroot branches. This is a
heathen ritual.
What is really the Day Pentecost?
We all know that there are 10 commandments (The Bible, Exodus 20:1-17).
But few of us know the fact that when we break one of 10 commandments we put our
life under curse (The Bible, Deuteronomy 27:26). But God does not want us to be under the curse, He
wants to give us ability to fulfill the law.
I am the first who can not fulfill 10 commandments. No one is able to
fulfill the law of God. That is why Creator gave a new covenant (new law): God
gave His only Son Jesus Christ on crucifixion like the sacrifice for sins of
mankind (The Bible, Gospel of John 3:16-18; Romans 10:9-10).
What does it mean?
More then 2.000 years ago Jesus Christ was crucified on the Calvary cross
and it was holy sacrifice for our sins.
How can we apply this to ourselves if we have broken God’s commandments?
- We may apply according to the Bible the Calvary sacrifice through the
prayer of repentance. The letter to Galatians declares: “Christ redeemed us
from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us--for it is written,
"CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO HANGS ON A TREE» (Galatians 3:13).
Simply put when I confess and leave my sins with sincere heart, then
Jesus Christ washes my sins away by His blood and gives the Holy Spirit in my
heart. It is written in the Bible: Gospel of John 16:7 – “But I tell you the
truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the
Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you”.
The Helper is the Holy
Spirit. He is the third Person in Devine Trinity.
Why do we need the Holy Spirit?
1)
To convict
us in our sins (John 16:8-11; 17:13)
2)
To lead us
to the truth (John 16:13)
3)
To teach us
(John 14:26)
4)
To give us
His ability through His Word not to sin
Before Jesus came, the Holy Spirit had descended only upon prophets of
God. We may read it in the Bible when Jesus came in flesh to this world people
saw the triune God manifested Himself: God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy
Spirit – Matthew 3:16-17 “After being baptized, Jesus came up immediately
from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of
God descending as a dove {and} lighting on Him, and behold, a voice out of the
heavens said, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased."
Every believer in spite of denominations may receive the baptism of the
Holy Spirit according to the Bible. Acts of Apostles 1:8 – “but you will
receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you”. The very first time
when God baptized disciples of Jesus Christ is indicated in Acts of Apostles
2:1-4.
We know that there is the Easter Day, and then 50 days later comes the
Pentecost Day. The word “Pentecost” means that God baptized disciples with
sign of speaking in other tongues on the 50th day.
Is it possible in modern days to be baptized in the Holy Spirit with the
sign of other tongues?
I personally met people from various denominations (Catholics,
Orthodoxies and Protestants) who were baptized with the Holy Spirit. I belong to
Protestant denomination (Pentecostal movement) where most part of believers is
baptized with the Holy Spirit (in Ukraine). I am baptized with the Holy Spirit
with the sign of speaking in other tongues.
What steps do you need to
do to receive baptism of the Holy Spirit?
I suggest you to
repent in your sins. My own prayer may help you but these words must be from
your heart.
“Oh Lord, forgive me
all conscious and unconscious sins. I deny all evil things and sin that took
place in my life. I deny you Satan. Jesus I believe that you have died for me on
the Calvary and shed your holy blood.
Come into my heart,
wash away my sins by your Blood and give me a new birth. (Gospel of Matthew
4:17; Gospel of John 3:3-6).
Give me the
understanding of your Holy Word. Reveal Yourself to me and come into my heart. (Revelation
3:20-21). ”
Pray also, so that the Lord would open your understanding of His Word (the
Bible).
Very often people say they do not want to change their father’s faith.
But when I ask them what exactly do they believe, they cannot answer. No
denomination can save us, only faith on Jesus Christ saves us. You need to know
the Bible.
For example: To become a President of FIKO I have studied book-keeping
for 3 years at the college and laws at the university for 5 years.
The same situation with the Word of God: we have to study it in order to
know it.
The letter to Galatians1:11-12: “For I would have you know, brethren
that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man. For I neither
received it from man, nor was I taught it, but {I received it} through a
revelation of Jesus Christ.”
God wants us to know His Word and to realize what Jesus Christ has done
on the cross for us. He wants to bless you and your children and give you
eternal life in heaven. The First Letter to Corinthians 15:55-56: “"O
DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR VICTORY? O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR STING?" The sting of
death is sin, and the power of sin is the law;”
We are saved from death and hell by the Calvary sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
“knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver
or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, but with
precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, {the blood} of Christ”
– 1Peter1:18-19
God gave you choice whether you will live with Him or not; whether you
will live under the curse or blessing. You may receive Jesus Christ as you r
personal Savior.
